Peenemünde and total warfare
The new weapons programmes and in particular the A4/V2 strategic rocket, were developed by Nazi Germany in its research centre in Peenemünde. The programmes were representative for the total warfare that would characterise the Second World War. One of mankind's oldest dreams, that of flying in space, turned into a nightmare with the creation of devices that used the highest level of technology. These devices were produced by concentration camp labour and were deployed against civilian populations as part of a military campaign of a terrorist nature.
